StormNet is built around explicit consent. Every feature that transmits data about you is something you switch on yourself, and can switch off again.
- GPS transmission
- Off by default. You enable it in the Android app and can disable it at any time.
- Background tracking
- A separate opt-in setting, independent from foreground GPS.
- Nearby discovery
- Optional. When disabled, other trackers cannot discover your device.
- Phone number
- Controlled separately and never required to use the app.
- Audio recording
- Only starts after you press record and only sends after you confirm.
- Emergency events
- Contain location data by design, because that is the purpose of the report.
- Storage
- All data lives on the API server operated by your network operator.
- Retention
- Determined by the retention time configured on that server.
This website
This website hosts the public information pages and the application downloads. It does not receive tracker positions, emergency reports or voice messages. Download requests are counted in aggregate so the team can see how often a release is downloaded.
Your rights
Requests regarding data stored in a StormNet network go to the operator of that API server, since they are the controller of that data.
